How to change alias in AnyDesk
Aliases are a great way to give each of your AnyDesk IDs a more descriptive identity. But if you don’t like the alias you set up when you first started using AnyDesk, don’t worry. There is an easy way to change your AnyDesk alias, and this article will show you how.
How to change AnyDesk alias
Unfortunately, only some AnyDesk users are able to change their aliases. Those using the free version of the software will not have this option. If you use the software for free, you can set your ID when you first install AnyDesk. After that, you will be stuck with the set ID unless you switch to using the paid version of AnyDesk.
If you purchase an AnyDesk Solo license, you can change your ID and alias up to 3 times. But if you are a user who changes your mind frequently, it might make more sense to go for a Standard or Premium license. These licenses allow you to set up a custom namespace, which allows you to change your alias an unlimited number of times.
Changing your alias in AnyDesk is very easy and only requires a few simple steps:
- Launch the AnyDesk application.https://googleads.g.doubleclick.net/pagead/ads?client=ca-pub-6366716774018597&output=html&h=200&slotname=7759727405&adk=57680983&adf=2220601997&pi=t.ma~as.7759727405&w=1180&abgtt=6&fwrn=4&lmt=1742470549&rafmt=11&format=1180×200&url=https%3A%2F%2Fcn.windows-office.net%2F%3Fp%3D41347&wgl=1&uach=WyJXaW5kb3dzIiwiMTAuMC4wIiwieDg2IiwiIiwiMTM0LjAuNjk5OC44OSIsbnVsbCwwLG51bGwsIjY0IixbWyJDaHJvbWl1bSIsIjEzNC4wLjY5OTguODkiXSxbIk5vdDpBLUJyYW5kIiwiMjQuMC4wLjAiXSxbIkdvb2dsZSBDaHJvbWUiLCIxMzQuMC42OTk4Ljg5Il1dLDBd&dt=1742470383045&bpp=1&bdt=2073&idt=2277&shv=r20250318&mjsv=m202503170101&ptt=9&saldr=aa&abxe=1&cookie_enabled=1&eoidce=1&prev_fmts=0x0%2C1200x280%2C1200x200&nras=1&correlator=4754341596864&frm=20&pv=1&rplot=4&u_tz=480&u_his=1&u_h=1080&u_w=1920&u_ah=1040&u_aw=1920&u_cd=24&u_sd=1&dmc=8&adx=383&ady=1102&biw=1905&bih=919&scr_x=0&scr_y=0&eid=95344788%2C31091112&oid=2&pvsid=3612112926330664&tmod=839405953&uas=0&nvt=1&ref=https%3A%2F%2Fcn.windows-office.net%2F%3Fp%3D43618&fc=1920&brdim=0%2C0%2C0%2C0%2C1920%2C0%2C0%2C0%2C1920%2C919&vis=1&rsz=%7C%7CpeEbr%7C&abl=CS&pfx=0&fu=128&bc=31&bz=0&td=1&tdf=2&psd=W251bGwsbnVsbCxudWxsLDNd&nt=1&ifi=4&uci=a!4&btvi=1&fsb=1&dtd=M

Where can I see AnyDesk aliases?
Let’s say you need to find out which alias is currently associated with your AnyDesk ID. There are several ways to find this information.
When requesting an alias from a remote client, you should direct them to go to “This Desk” or “Your Address”, depending on their version of AnyDesk. There they can find information about their ID and alias.

You can also check this information yourself by accessing the AnyDesk Customer Portal. The portal is the primary interface for viewing and modifying customer account properties.
Once in the Customer Portal, go to the Customers tab. This tab will display all the customers registered to your account. You will be able to view the client’s current AnyDesk alias under the Alias tab.
Sometimes you may need information about a client’s alias while you are in a conversation with a client. If this is the case, you can access “Conversations” in the Customer Portal. This tab displays all current and past conversations with clients registered to your account. If you look in the “To” field, you will see the remote client’s AnyDesk ID and alias. At the same time, the “From” field will display your information.
If you have a custom namespace, you will be able to view details about the number of concurrent aliases allowed under the License tab. Generally speaking, this tab allows you to manage general administrative information.
What can you use as an AnyDesk alias?
When changing your AnyDesk alias, there are some rules to keep in mind.
Each alias consists of a name and a namespace in the format “name@namespace”. If you have a public namespace, your alias will end with “@ad”, referring to AnyDesk. Users with custom namespaces can end their aliases with their company name.
In addition to being a more personalized alias, switching to a custom namespace allows you to change or reassign aliases registered to that namespace an unlimited number of times. Custom namespaces also help protect your devices.
As for the name part of the alias, it can consist of the following characters:
- Numbers from zero to nine
- Lowercase and uppercase letters from a to z
- Minus sign (-)
- Period symbol (.)
- Underscore symbol (_)
Any other character is prohibited and considered invalid, so you will not be able to use it in your AnyDesk alias.
How to register AnyDesk alias in a custom namespace
By choosing a custom namespace, all of your clients will receive a personalized name that typically ends with your company name. This allows for a seamless brand experience for your customers when all clients under your license appear the same.
Here’s how to register an alias in a custom namespace:
- Visit the AnyDesk Customer Portal.
- Navigate to the Clients tab.
- Go to the Customer Details page.
- Go to the “Aliases” section.
- Click the Set Alias button.
- Enter the desired alias.
- Press Save.
If you want to avoid manually setting up your alias, you can do so automatically by accessing the Advanced AnyDesk options:
- Go to the AnyDesk Customer Portal.
- Select Advanced settings.
- Navigate to the Automatically register aliases into custom namespace field.
- Under Key-Value Pairs, enter the following code:
ad.anynet.register.add_to_namespace=true
You can only set up auto-enrollment for clients that do not have an existing profile. When auto-enrollment is enabled, the default alias contains the device name and your custom namespace.
What Else Can You Customize in AnyDesk?
Apart from changing the alias and namespace, AnyDesk offers a ton of options for customization from the AnyDesk customer portal. These options are available once you sign up for a premium license. Here are some of the options that might come in handy.
Client Builder
With the Custom Client Builder, customers can customize their experience with AnyDesk. To create a custom client:
- Select the “File” option from the top menu.
- Click on the Create a new custom AnyDesk client option.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to create a custom client configuration.
set up
The Settings tab allows you to shape the interface of the AnyDesk window and customize your overall experience. From here, you can do the following:
- Set the default language
- Set the client to display the ID instead of the alias
- Disable access to custom settings
- Disabling the Address Book feature in custom clients
- Disable TCP listening ports to avoid Windows Firewall notifications
- Allows connections to be made in the background when the AnyDesk main window is minimized
- Automatically register aliases
- Automatically register custom clients to your license.
- Automatically add clients to address book to simplify deployment
- Set up a password for unattended access
- Enable AnyDesk at startup
- Whitelist IDs or namespaces that are allowed to request the session
Logo and Icon
To brand the AnyDesk interface, you can include your or your company’s logo at the top of the main window. Simply upload a JPEG or PNG image file under the Logos and Icons tab. The size will scale automatically, but use a 200×40 pixel PNG image file for best results.
If you are a Windows user, you can also select different colored icons for each client. The selected icons will appear as:
- Window Icons
- Tray Icon
- Install Icon
Custom Text
Windows users can also customize the appearance of the main window and change the disclaimer that appears when the AnyDesk client starts.
Public Links
AnyDesk account holders control access to custom clients. If you want custom clients to be accessible to AnyDesk without logging in, you can set them up as public URL links. Only users who have direct knowledge of this link can download the custom client.
Even if you change the configuration, the created link will never change. Users with custom links will continue to receive the latest client versions via notifications. Currently, AnyDesk does not support automatic updates for custom clients.
Advanced Settings
If you want to dig deeper and fully customize your AnyDesk experience, the Advanced Settings area will come in handy. These mainly contain configuration settings, but you will also find options to override specific settings so that users cannot change them back to their original settings in the AnyDesk client.
Visit the AnyDesk website for a complete list of codes that can be used to fine-tune the AnyDesk client to your specifications.
Can you recover a lost AnyDesk alias?
AnyDesk aliases and IDs are stored locally in the service.conf configuration file. If this file is lost, the IDs and aliases are also lost. The only way to restore and reclaim these identities is by backing up the configuration file.
To back up your aliases, save the service.conf configuration file in a safe location. You can also protect your settings and recent sessions by backing up the entire Installed folder.
Any desktop, any alias
As long as you purchase a premium AnyDesk license and follow the set rules, there is no limit to the number of aliases you can create or change. As with almost all AnyDesk customizations, the process is simple and should not take more than a few minutes.
