How to troubleshoot common AnyDesk errors on Windows
Having trouble with AnyDesk? Check out this collection of common errors on Windows for fixes.

AnyDesk is a popular tool for accessing remote desktops with a large user base. Although it usually runs smoothly, problems can occasionally occur.
Many users have reported frustrating errors ranging from connection issues to random shutdowns and even system crashes in severe cases.
With that in mind, we’ve collected some common Windows AnyDesk errors and provided some easy fixes to help you out.
1. Unable to connect or disconnect from AnyDesk network
You may experience problems using AnyDesk due to a poor Internet connection. Believe it or not, connection problems are usually caused by a variety of reasons. For example, a weak network signal, server downtime, or the computer time is out of sync with the Internet time.
Whatever the reason, you can quickly fix them. Here are some common ways to fix AnyDesk-related connection issues:
- Weak Internet Connection : We have a dedicated guide that can help you fix any internet issues on Windows.
- AnyDesk servers are down: If you have a feeling that AnyDesk servers are down, you can only wait for the developers to fix it. To make sure your guess is right, visit AnyDesk status page and check if its servers are up and running.
- Out of Sync Time: If the time and date on your Windows PC is incorrect, you may experience various issues while browsing and accessing the Internet. To resolve this issue, you need to sync the Windows time correctly.
2. The connection was forcibly closed
This AnyDesk error indicates that there is a problem with your computer’s firewall configuration. If the connection is disconnected automatically most of the time, you need to check your firewall settings.
You don’t need to worry about these steps as it is very simple for a novice. Here is how to allow AnyDesk to bypass Windows Firewall:
- Press Win + Q to open Windows Search.
- Type Allow an app through Windows Firewall , and then click the best match.
- Click the Change Settings button to allow the firewall to modify the settings.
- Find AnyDesk in the list of allowed apps and features . Toggle the Private as well as Public checkboxes next to AnyDesk .
- When finished, click OK to allow AnyDesk to pass through the firewall without any restrictions.
By default, Windows never allows any program to connect to the Internet (not through the firewall). This ensures that attempts by hackers to remotely spread malware to your computer are minimized.
In addition to firewalls, also check for bandwidth limitations or restrictions that may be causing problems.
3. Black screen during remote session
When using AnyDesk, you may experience the problem of the remote screen appearing blank (white) or black.
Please note that this problem can occur for only two reasons: display settings on the remote computer and outdated graphics drivers.
Now that you know the root cause of the black screen, read on to find out how to fix it:
1. Fix the display settings on the remote computer
First, check the display settings in AnyDesk and make sure they are configured correctly.
Here’s how to access the display settings in AnyDesk:
- Open AnyDesk and click on the hamburger menu located in the upper right corner.
- Click Settings to open the AnyDesk Settings window.
- In the Settings window, select Display .
- Adjust the quality and viewing mode to your needs to optimize the remote viewing experience. Also, select the option that balances quality and response time over slow Internet connections .
- Under Hardware Acceleration , select OpenGL .
- Close AnyDesk and reopen it.
You can now reconnect to the remote computer and check if the blank display issue is resolved.
2. Update outdated graphics card drivers
Are you one of those people who frequently updates your Windows PC to the latest version? Great! But besides that, it’s equally important to keep your graphics card drivers updated.
Outdated graphics drivers can cause performance issues, or worse, system crashes.
Need to know more about updating your graphics card drivers? Don’t worry; check out our guide on how to update your Windows graphics drivers. With updated graphics drivers, you can not only avoid display issues, but also enhance your remote viewing experience.
4. Unable to log in to the remote computer
Isn’t it frustrating when you set up everything correctly but still get the “Cannot log in” error? Note that this error can occur due to a glitch on the remote computer’s end. So, you can’t do anything magical from your side.
If you are eager to connect to a remote computer, then it goes without saying that the remote computer must be active and the AnyDesk window must be open. In addition, the remote computer must have access to the Internet.
But that’s not all! Even if everything is perfect on both sides, if the remote computer refuses the connection request, you will never be able to log into it.
So, what is the solution?
First, make sure you enter the correct address of the remote device. Second, you must make sure the remote computer accepts the request. Last but not least, make sure it is configured with the necessary AnyDesk settings to allow remote access.
5. Remote session interrupted when using AnyDesk
This error message typically appears when the remote computer loses its internet connection or shuts down unexpectedly. To fix this problem, try to reconnect to the remote computer or contact the person who uses the computer.
Another reason could be that the AnyDesk connection is blocked on the remote computer. This could be due to Windows Firewall or an antivirus program.
In both cases, you must “whitelist” or allow AnyDesk to bypass the firewall. While whitelisting AnyDesk should work, sometimes it may not.
In this case, follow these steps to disable direct connection via AnyDesk:
- Open AnyDesk and go to its settings
- Click the Unlock Connection Settings button to gain permission to modify the settings.
- In AnyDesk Global Settings , uncheck the Allow direct connections checkbox.
- After disabling direct connections, scroll down and click Apply to save changes.
Once you disable direct connection, AnyDesk will always connect via a relay (middle) server. One downside is that it may result in a slightly slower connection if you have a slow internet connection.
